School Day

A morning welcome

All children are welcomed into the school by a member of staff through a staggered start system – Y3 children enter at 8.40am, Y4 children at 8:45am, Y5 children at 8:50am and Y6 children at 8:55am.  Apart from the Y6 children, who enter school through their classroom fire door, pupils enter through the main white doors. This is a good opportunity for you to pass on any important information relevant to the learning mentor or member of the senior leadership team on duty, for example a change in collection arrangements.

It is important that your child arrives at school promptly so that they begin their day settled and ready for their learning.  If your child arrives ten minutes after their start time, they will need to enter the school by reception so that they can be signed in.

At Sitwell, we provide a Breakfast Club, which runs from 7:45am – 8:40am. The children then go to their classrooms in time for registration.

Mid-morning

All children have a mid-morning break, lasting fifteen minutes, where they are able to purchase a healthy snack from our tuck shop or alternatively, eat an healthy snack from home.  At playtime, children have access to the ‘trim trail’, climbing apparatus, ball court, tyre park and various other outdoor play equipment on a rota basis. Children have access to their own water bottles throughout the day and are encouraged to drink regularly for their own health and well-being.

First aid qualified staff are on hand to deal with minor cuts and injuries which are recorded in the school accident book. Parents will be notified if it is considered necessary.

Lunchtime

Eating a cooked meal together is a really important part of developing social skills and also learning to eat healthily. All of the meals provided at school are healthy, balanced and nutritious. They are cooked on the premises and offer a vegetarian and meat option. Special dietary needs can also be accommodated. All meals are accompanied by a drink of water. If your child would prefer to bring a packed lunch then they can of course do so.

For Y3 and Y4, school lunchtime is from 11:45am to 12.30pm and for Y5 and Y6, 12:30pm – 1:15pm and includes a supervised playtime after lunch.

The End of the Day

The school day ends through a staggered finish system – Y3 children leave at 2:55pm, Y4 children at 3:00pm, Y5 children at 3:05pm and Y6 children at 3:10pm. The teacher will only release a child when the person responsible for picking them up is identified by the child. Any children who have not been collected, wait at the school reception area until a parent or carer has been contacted and they can be safely collected.

After School Provision

At Sitwell Junior School, we have a variety of school clubs that run from 3pm to 4pm. Please click here to see our clubs page to find out more.

Travelling to School

We encourage our children to walk to school whenever possible as parking in the immediate vicinity is limited.  We have scooter and bicycle shelter available if your child would like to scoot or cycle to school. If you do come by car then please try and car share with friends and neighbours to reduce the traffic and ensure that you are parking and driving respectfully and safely around the school.
