2nd November 2022
9th November 2022As we return for the second half of our Autumn Term 2022 I am reflecting on the academic year so far and cannot believe how quickly the first half term went. Our new Year 3 children settled in with great resilience and responsibility – it is not easy moving from an infant to junior school and they have all coped with this transition exceedingly well. They have taken to the new routines with ease and are now part of team Sitwell.
At the opposite end of the school, our Year 6 children have taken on their leadership roles and responsibilities with confidence; these being Values Leaders, Head Pupils and Playground Buddies to name just a few. The Head Pupils exceeded themselves when helping out during our Parent Consultation Evenings recently. All of the pupils in Year 3 and 4 have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the playground activities organised by the Values Leaders, which are now making playtimes a very enjoyable experience for everyone.
Our Year 4 children have really engaged in their topic this term and had a wonderfully enjoyable trip to the Royal Armouries in Leeds where they took part in an Anglo Saxon dig and a very creative Beowulf workshop.
The Year 5 children have had many highlights during the first half term and have been thoroughly engrossed in their Maya topic. They particularly enjoyed the food tasting afternoon, where they got to sample some foods they had never tasted before. They also had an amazing experience during their VR day in school where they donned a VR headset and viewed a 3D Mayan Civilisation!
Looking forwards to this half term, we have so much to look forward to. The Year 3 children have Stone Age workshops in school and will be showcasing their learning during their Express Assembly for parents. Year 6 are visiting the Holocaust Museum which is always a very moving experience for both children and staff. In addition, we will be running community events to raise money for charity as well as the school; events include Children in Need and our Winter Fair.
Finally, to finish off the term, the children will be enjoying a number of festive activities including Christmas Jumper Day, Christmas Dinner and our Year 3 and 4 Christmas Performances. We can’t wait!
