Happy New Year
5th January 2020Happy New Year everyone and welcome back to school for the start of 2020. I hope that everyone had a great Christmas.
The first week back is set to be a very active one across school. Most year groups will launch their new topics with some exciting ‘Engage Days’ and also introduce their new class texts. These provide an opportunity to develop a real love of reading, whist children are also introduced to a wide range of authors. It is going to be a very eventful couple of weeks at Sitwell with the Young Voices Concert at the Sheffield Arena taking place on 7th January, followed by the Y4 Anglo Saxon Workshops, the Y6 Bouldering Competition at the Climbing Works and the EFL Kids Cup Y5/Y6 Football Competition. Many thanks to all the staff who continue to work tirelessly to provide the children with these rich and varied experiences, as well as the pupils who always make us proud.
Winter Book Week
Since my last blog, we have held our Winter Book Week, where each class has been immersed in a winter story and the work produced is of an extremely high standard. Wouldn’t you agree?
Pupil of the Term
Just before Christmas we held our Pupil of the Term assemblies. A big well done to the children who were nominated by their class teachers for showing the Sitwell Seven values throughout Term 1 and to the Young Voices Choir and Recorder Club for their beautiful singing and playing.
Christmas Concerts
Just before the holidays, our wonderful children performed their outstanding Christmas concerts for our families. The children were a credit to our school and families and really captivated the joy of Christmas. All of the children sang beautifully and the huge audience enjoyed it immensely. Well done: all of their dedication and effort paid off!
Winter Fair
The Winter Fair was another success, with the school raising just over £1000. As always, much of this would not be possible without the generous support given to school by the ‘Friends of Sitwell’ team, staff and parents. Many, many thanks for your contributions. It was great to see so many parents in school supporting the event and we received many positive comments about the items children had made to sell on the day. I was lucky enough to sample some of the delicious baking – yummy!
Calling all Parents…
We are pleased to announce a weekly morning workshop where parents will be able to come in with their child and complete the morning task set by the class teacher, from 8:40am – 9am. These morning tasks may focus on maths, reading grammar and punctuation or writing; therefore, giving parents the opportunity to see some aspects of their child’s curriculum. These workshops begin this week. For Y5 and Y6 parents, these workshops will be held every Friday morning, Y4 workshops on a Wednesday and Y3 on a Monday morning. We look forward to welcoming you into school.
